This is my all time favorite devotional for my girls. I love it! So many great topics are covered and they are all things that girls can apply and relate well too. There is a bible verse, devotional and a little sidebar of an activity that Moms and Daughters can do together for each day of the year. This devotional is great for all ages of girls. We've spiked our hair like Albert Einstein and learned so much about each other. My girls beg me to read this to them each night before bedtime! Don't wait dive into the word with your girls and this devotional now. You will be so glad you did!

Secret Keeper The Delicate Power of Modesty Dannah K Gresh 9780802439727 Books Reviews

I received this from my pastor as a resource that I could use with our middle school girls' Bible study group. A lot of it was what I expected a strong biblical foundation with lots of verses referenced and/or printed in full. a lot of examples and non-examples of modesty. a focus on both the inward attitude of modesty (our hearts) and the outward expression (our appearance).

What I didn't expect was that *I* would be convicted to evaluate my heart and appearance as God spoke to my heart about areas of my life that needed to change. Yes, I shared it with my students and several girl friends too, but it was a valuable tool to *me* more than anyone else. I flip through it as a youth leader and as a woman seeking to reflect Christ.

The contents/main points of this booklet are
1) The Power (Modesty is a delicate yet formidable power.)
2) The Secret (God has an intended purpose for you.)
3) The Mark (It's not just fashion.)
4) The Allure (The allure of immodesty is not in what is seem but what is not seen.)
5) The Inner Quality (If a girl's modesty is not followed by the confidence of internal modesty, she still forfeits the power of her virtue.)
6) The Bottom Line (When you love Him, you will be able to obey Him in the way that you dress.)
In my opinion this book has a good intention. I was trying to connect with my daughter at a spiritual level but I found this devotional to be too "light" in the topics. Maybe the age range should be from 6-8. Girls above 10 in many cases have to deal with a lot more heavy stuff like making sense of complicated family dynamics pair with growing in a world that offers wickedness at every corner from pornography through drugs all the way to atheism and satanism. As I said, I think the intention of the book is good, but I think the topics need to be a lot more relevant to today's reality.
I purchased this book for my daughter and I to be able to reconnect after I come home from work. It’s got some great conversational prompts and I really like how it ties scripture into real world examples. We don’t use it every day, which is nice because we’ve used it for over a year now and haven’t repeated the same day yet. I purchased this when she was six and she seemed to understand and comprehend the concepts well.
I'm doing this with my 10.5 year old. She usually does her very own devotionals and keeps a prayer journal. But when my husband started doing one with our younger sons, I realized that she and I needed some "guided Mommy Daughter time".
This format is perfect. Short but full of impact. Has a bible verse at the top, one for each day of the year, an application story, and either a talking prompt or activity. That's it. Simple and effective. Get this, don't think twice about it.
This is a wonderful devo for moms and daughters. The lessons are short and sweet and very applicable to young teens lives. Great discussion opportunities and there are some fun craft and other activity examples added in here too!
My daughter (10) and I have been reading this at night for about a week and we are both really enjoying it. One of us will read the scripture and the other will read the devotional. It's been great to get her into her Bible, looking things up and talking about them afterwards. Great purchase.
When I ordered devotional books for my daughters, this was my first choice. Dannah Gresh is a name I trust, and I loved the idea of reading it right along with my 9-year-old.

Reality I have four kids, and finding time to sit down and read this with her every day isn’t always easy. We usually read it before school, but on the days that don’t go according to plan, it is nearly impossible to find another time that works for both of us. When we do get to it though, my daughter loves the one-on-one time (and so do I).

There are definitely some devotionals in here that were too advanced for my 9-year-old daughter. She is not into dating yet, obviously. So talking about not becoming obsessed with boys wasn't really something she was interested in. I know some girls her age that are in to boys, so it probably just depends on the girl. And that is just one example. Just like any devotional book, some days were powerful, others fell flat.

I will also add that while this book is very well written and organized, I was a bit frustrated with the reading level. It uses some pretty big words and stopping to talk about what they say, how to pronounce them, and what they mean, really takes away from the devotional experience. If your daughter is a really strong reader with a large vocabulary, it probably won’t be an issue, but not every tween is, and I think it’s important to note.

All that said, I do recommend this devotional book. It would be a fabulous resource for the right mother-daughter duo. I am just not sure that is us, or maybe it will be in a couple of years, but not yet.
