C.E. Johnson has created a truly unique and magical world. This is a pure fantasy novel, even though fourteen-year-old Emily begins her life here on Earth. From the first chapter we learn that she has other worldly origins, and several people from her home planet of Acacia come through to our world. I enjoyed learning about all of the rules of magic, types of magic, and watching Emily discover her own special abilities. I’ll admit, this novel is packed with details, colorful characters, and new vocabulary to digest, which at times was a bit overwhelming. However, there is a glossary at the back of the novel that I could refer to if needed.

My favorite magical aspect of C.E. Johnson’s world was the bondsmates—animals that share a telepathic bond with their magician. I enjoyed the relationship between Emily and her bondsmate Doberman, Xena.

Different magical factions are hunting Emily, and her presence on Earth is only putting her adopted family in jeopardy. As she grows stronger in her magic, she must ultimately return to her home planet, a place she has never been to before. The pacing of the novel picks up once Emily and Xena are in Acacia. Her adventures here were my favorite, and I was disappointed the story ended on a cliffhanger. I’m not a fan of cliffhangers, but C.E. Johnson is forgiven because the second novel, Redstone, is available. At least I don’t have to wait to find out what happened to Emily.

I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading about rich fantasy worlds, magical creatures, and grand adventures!

I very much enjoyed this book. This book, like many others, places the protagonist in a scenario in which the world they know is alongside another, secret world, similar to J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, or Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series. However, while those series have their main characters spending most of their time in this second world, this story's protagonist spends most of her time in the normal world, an unorthodox approach to this type of story. However, the author pulls this off extremely well, and makes "Bluestone" a book well worth the read.
Emily is an independent teenager with a lot of determination, curiosity and talent including magical talent which she needs to develop but at the same time keep secret. C.E. Johnson sets the story in beautiful Austin, Texas where he weaves interesting information about all kinds of topics while establishing the details of an intricately developing plot that eventually takes you into a magical place. With the advent of a bondsmate, which is a human connection with an animal, it brings a mutually beneficial view of the world in a refreshing and creative way and helps protect Emily.
The story has such an immense level of detail to it that leaves me in total amazement as I imagine the scenes. The story well-crafted and the creative imagination that the author has for the adventures are unique and memorable. The story is full of adventure and discovery, the descriptions are so detailed that I feel like I am living the story as I vividly imagine all the world around me. Recommended!
A fantastic sci-fi, fantasy, adventure story of 14 year old Emily Whayne who discovers her purpose using strange powers and travelling to parallel dimensional worlds. I would say this is appropriate for young adults readers. The story is exciting and well developed with a multitude of interesting characters. I love this book and I can't wait for the second book Highly recommended. I look forward to the next book.
Among the genreś I read, fantasy is one of my favorites. C E Johnson delivers a one of a kind adventure to the parallel worlds Earth and Acacia. Well thougth of characters, great inteaction between them and nice build up of the heroes and villains. You can be mightily curious about Emily, Xena, Dr D, Samil, Malachi and the other characters. Plotwise, the pacing is good and keeps the reader informed and excited.

It’s great! I’ve been taking a break from most sci-fi and fantasy related books as of recently, but I couldn’t resist “The Ammolite Adventures” and, having just finished it, I am glad that I decided to give it a chance. The plot is very unique and does a great job of staying original while still being composed of plenty of popular scifi and fantasy elements that makes the genre so appealing.
I’m a big fan of Emily as well, she makes for a perfect protagonist and the author has constructed her so well that she seems dynamic and actually quite realistic. Overall, it’s very impressive and also pretty lengthy which is always a plus for me.
I love sci-fi so much, and was excited to pick this up. Emily is a enjoyable character and I could appreciate the story and setting right away. Dr. D kind of creeps me out and I don't know if it's just me or if that was intentional of the Author. The world is vivid and there's a lot going on. Your attention is immediately captured by the first couple pages. There is a lot going on, but there's a mix of real life situations that keeps the book believable (like practicing tai chi and going to practice).

I would recommend it as a gift for teenagers, or anyone with an imagination.
