What if Jesus hadn't been crucified?

For two thousand years the religions of earth have been united in peace and harmony, and humanity enveloped in Nirvana. But in the early decades of the twentieth century, natural disasters, famine, disease and economic collapse bring catastrophe and a fledgling Nazi Party sweeps to power. Now, almost a century later, their brutal persecution of millions is a never-ending holocaust.
Yet a few heroes remain.
Leigh Wilson, inventor of one of the most significant discoveries in human history and a leading member of the Reich’s Technical Division has kept a secret all her life. But plunged into the aftermath of the cold-blooded murder of a Nazi official, she is forced to make a choice. Will she use her power to reset history? Will she destroy what she loves to save what she can only imagine?

A Time to Every Purpose is a thrilling mix of science and action, good versus evil, and the eternal question all humans face Is this my time to act?
***** A clash of science fiction and alternative history makes A Time To Every Purpose rock along, from the opening scenes of unfurling Swastikas over London to the shattering climax of a world torn asunder. Detailed, grounded in frighteningly believable shades of what might have been, what is and what could still be, this debut novel is not to be missed.

***** "A thriller with heart... Gifted storytelling combines with meticulous scientific and historical research to produce a memorable and profoundly moving story..." (Elaine Fry, The West Australian)
***** "A Time To Every Purpose by Ian Andrew deals with huge concepts, looking at the broad sweep of history... a well-executed alternate history novel with some great action scenes." (John Wyatt, News International, UK)
***** With the exception of some Ken Follett, I have not really read much historical fiction, but this mixes that with science fiction, and both Ken and HG Wells would, I'm sure, be proud had they written this book. (V Magill, UK)
***** Very cleverly crafted, beautifully phrased, technically adept, and this guy really does know how to tell a story. It was very difficult to put down, and I ended up staying up late 5 nights in a row to finish it. ( UK)
***** The reader truly connects with the characters and you find yourself hoping that they will uncover some way out of the terrible circumstances in which they find themselves. Although not part of the main theme, on a deeper level the book also opens up underlying concerns about the rights and wrongs of the use of force by governments, manipulation of media and exertion of control of the population by control of information and employment of violence - all very thought-provoking. This is an excellent first novel by an author with no small degree of promise. ( UK)

A Time To Every Purpose edition by Ian Andrew Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

This is an excellent book, a memorable alternative universe book that has the Nazis ruling the world into 2020s. Great twists, great deviatons with a great climax. You have to love any book that mixes, nazis and science with desperate to fight against the regime people. This is a great book with a great twist
What a great twist on the alternate reality trope? Andrew starts off with dystopian alternate world and the characters manage to change things so our world today is the outcome. Simply brilliant.
A great alternative timeline story about the Third Reich and the Axis dominating the world, starting from a very different situation. The time machine is more like a viewer than an H. G. Wells type device. That provides challenges for the characters in their efforts to alter the oppressive situation in which they find themselves and the rest of the world.
The opening paragraph makes it obvious that this is yet another alternate history novel, with the Nazis winning. Robert Harris' 'Fatherland' had the Germans managing to avoid the temptation of Stalingrad and successfully conquering the Caucasus oilfields, resulting in the Soviets running out of oil, and thus being incapable of continuing resistance.

This novel's explanation is given early on. A historical Jesus was universally recognised as Messiah, establishing a One Religion (the Turner Church) and instituting nearly 2000 years of peace and pacifism. So that the Great War didn't happen. But the Spanish Influenza did, for reasons only alluded to, at the culmination of a time of famine and natural disaster, resulting in a Great Depression, again allowing Adolf Hitler to take power in a world unable to defend itself.

And after gaining power, engaged in a murderous campaign against adherents of the Turner Church (well, there were no Jews after everyone accepted the universal church).

Anyhow. It's very well written, and a good read. Its end was fairly obvious 150 pages from the end, but I was still interested in what actually happened to the main characters (I was a little disappointed that the epilogue only gave slight mention to two of the main characters - a longer epilogue would have been appreciated, as Andreas Eschbach did in 'der Jesus-Deal', which managed to do so for all his characters).
This was a book with a fascinating premise. Unlike many alternate history books it followed through with very good character development, plenty of action and plot shifts that were both unexpected and thought provoking. It really made me think.
Goes downhill quickly with page after page of unnecessary back story. Book is loaded with adjectives and adverbs for no real purpose other than to try to make the story longer. I gave up about a third of the way through, I'm too old to waste my time this way.
Refreshing to read a book where the plot line is unpredictable. The philosophical and ideologic view of good vs. evil in the story line is unique. Your heart beats with the same fear and paranoia the characters feel as they travel back in time breaking the laws of the current regime all knowing death is imminent if they're caught. Where they travel to, who they seek, and how far they'll go to change the world will make you question pacifism. Andrew's grasp with technical aspects of the military is incredible. Difficult to put down…I was propelled to ignore every day work to finish.
Great read ! I had trouble putting it down! Author weaves an interesting tale blending good character development with sci/if alternative realities and time travel. Also, quite a nice dash of hopefulness and social commentary. Highly recommended read!
